Anthro Energy Breaks Ground on Louisville Battery Plant: About 110 Jobs by Late 2027

LOUISVILLE, KY — Construction is underway in Louisville's South End on a battery materials plant that Anthro Energy says will employ about 110 people full time once it opens. The California company broke ground in August, and it expects the plant to be running in late 2027. That gives job seekers a long runway, and the people who use it well will be first in line.

A $40-million-plus electrolyte plant, 110 permanent jobs, and roughly 390 construction jobs along the way. No openings are posted yet, so this is the time to get ready.

What Anthro Energy Is Building

Anthro Energy was founded in 2021 and already runs a production facility in California. The Louisville plant will be its first commercial-scale factory. It will make an injectable electrolyte, the material that lets charge move inside a battery cell, for batteries used in consumer electronics, e-bikes and scooters, defense equipment and vehicles. At full output, the company expects more than 12,000 metric tons a year.

The project was first announced in December 2025. The state's economic development finance authority gave preliminary approval to up to $2 million in Kentucky Business Investment tax incentives over 10 years, paid only if the company hits its job, wage and investment targets. Details are in the state's groundbreaking announcement.

💼 The Jobs Coming to the South End

The state's announcements list the kinds of roles the plant will need:

  • Production manufacturing technicians
  • Process and control engineers
  • Maintenance technicians
  • Warehouse technicians
  • Facility managers
  • Accounting staff

No wage figures have been published for these jobs, and no headcount schedule has been released. We are not going to guess at either one. The construction jobs will come first, during the buildout, and the permanent plant jobs are expected closer to the 2027 opening.

🎓 How to Get Ready Now

The company has said it will recruit and train local talent with partners including Jefferson Community and Technical College and the Kentucky FAME program. That makes FAME the clearest on-ramp for a younger worker. Students go to class two full days a week at JCTC and work 24 hours a week at a sponsoring manufacturer, earning a paycheck while finishing an Advanced Manufacturing Technician associate degree in about two years. It is selective and aimed at high school seniors and recent graduates. Details and the program contact are on the JCTC KY FAME page.
